Convert item types

You can convert fields and static texts to different types. The following conversion can be performed.

Procedure

To convert fields to static texts and vice versa

  1. Select an item.

  2. Select Convert Field to Static text or Convert Static text to Field by selecting Edit - Convert item or from the right-click menu of the item.

If a field is selected, you can select Convert Field to Static text. If static text is selected, you can select Convert Static text to Field.

    Restriction

Conversion is not possible in the following cases:

    • The item is placed using the repeat feature

    • The item is included in a group

To convert static texts to a text frame

  1. Select an item.

  2. Select Convert Static text to TextFrame by selecting Edit - Convert item or from the right-click menu of the item.

    Restriction

    • Conversion is not possible in the following cases:

      • The item is placed using the repeat feature

      • The item is included in a group

      • The mode is not graphic mode

    • Item properties converted to text frame properties are as follows:

      • Full-width font

      • Half-width font

      • Font size

      • Bold

      • Italic

      • Text color

The color of the page to be converted applies.

      • Multi-page flag

If you include an item with its multi-page check box selected, the check box for that multi-page will be selected.

    • If the format of each item is different when you convert multiple items, the format will be converted per item and applied to the corresponding character strings.

    • This menu appears only while you are editing a Japanese form file.

    Reference

    • You can collectively convert multiple pieces of static text into a text frame.

      • When you convert multiple static texts, you can combine them in the order selected only when they are selected by SHIFT.

      • The properties of an item you will convert first are reflected to the property settings of a text frame.

      • The processing order of text frames can be changed on the By layer tab in Navigator.

      • If you selected an item other than static texts, it will not be converted to a text frame.

    • The static texts are converted to a text frame based on the position and size of the static texts.

      • The entire range of the static texts selected is reflected to the text frame size.

      • The character position may not correspond to that of before the conversion as they are recalculated within the text frame during conversion.

When concatenating static texts

  1. Select two or more static texts to concatenate.

  2. Select Edit - Convert item - Concatenate static texts.

    The static texts is concatenated.

    Restriction

    • You cannot concatenate locked static texts.

    • You cannot concatenate static texts included in repeat items.

Static text concatenation rules

Use the following procedure to concatenate multiple static texts:

  • The order of concatenation is the order of items selected. In the case of range selection, it is the drawing order.

  • Characters are concatenated at the character string of the first static text. The pitch is automatically calculated in the range of corresponding items.

  • The property settings follows the setting of the first static text.

  • The first item is updated as a concatenated item, and the other items are deleted.

Reference

  • When the pitch calculation turns out to be a minus value, even if a graphic item, the minimum value is "0" and the characters are combined so that they do not overlap.

  • The origin position is for the first item, but if the first item is not placed at the upper-left corner (positionally top), an item is created with the first item as its origin.

  • In Thai language form files, calculate the pitch only when the half-width fonts are "Courier" or "OCRB".

  • If you concatenate items with different fonts, the pitch may not be calculated correctly to make the items fit in the overall size.
