Paper properties

The following is the properties of paper that can be set from Property editor:

Properties

Description

Size

Specify the paper size to be used. You can select any of the following paper sizes:

Postcard, A5, A4, A3, B5, B4, Letter, Stock form, User-defined

  • According to the selected paper size/orientation, the printable area will be indicated with a gray border in the form window.

  • When Stock form is selected: Set the height in units of 1/6 inch and the width in units of 1 inch.

  • When User-defined is selected: Set User-defined paper height(mm) and User-defined paper width(mm) in the range of 10 to 2540 mm.

Restriction

The printer models that can print a simplified Chinese form with the User-defined settings are PDF, EMF, and EMFPLUS.

Caution

The gray border displayed in the form window indicates the printable area. Actually print the form to check whether the items located near the border can be printed.

Reference

  • The printable area for user-defined paper sizes depends on the printer specifications. Set the paper size after checking the paper width and height ranges of the printer to be used.

  • User-defined paper sizes can be used with the following printer models: ART4, LIPS4, RPCS, RPDL2, PostScript, DP Series, DotPrinter, SATO, TEC, MultiCoder, Zebra, PDF, EMF, EMFPLUS, and Excel.

  • The printable area can be changed for each paper size in Settings - Preferences - Others - Non-printable area.

Paper orientation

Select Portrait or Landscape as page orientation.

  • "Portrait" prints the page in a vertical direction and "Landscape" prints the page in a horizontal direction.

Stock form height(1/6inch)

Specify the height of the stock form in 1/6 inch units.

  • By default, the height of the stock form is set to 11 inches. If the actual paper size is less than 11 inches, you need to specify the height of the stock form.

Reference

To prevent page break discrepancies when designing a form to be printed out from a dot matrix printer, specify the vertical size of the stock form in multiples of three. In the case of irregular paper sizes, design multiple pages to fit in one form.

Example: When one page is 22/6 inches in height:

The paper size, 22/6 or about 3.7 inches, is an irregular paper size. In such a case, design more than one page in one form in such a way that the height of the form becomes a multiple of three.

Since 22*3=66, specify 66/6 inches as the height of the stock form.

When designing the form, design the data of three pages onto one form.

Stock form width(inch)

Specify the width of the stock form in 1 inch units.

  • By default, the width of the stock paper is 15 inches, but the actual printable width is 13.6 inches. Even if the actual paper width is less than 15 inches, the default setting should be fine.

User-defined paper height(mm)

Specify the height of the user-defined paper in millimeters.

User-defined paper width(mm)

Set the width of user-defined paper in millimeters.

Adjust print position (X)(mm)

Moves the print position horizontally by the specified value.

  • This moves all the items on the form window. Items will be moved to the left for negative values, and to the right for positive values.

Adjust print position (Y)(mm)

Moves the print position vertically by the specified value.

  • This moves all the items on the form window. Items will be moved upwards for negative values, and downwards for positive values.

Full color

Select to print each item according to its print color specified.

If cleared, each item will be printed in black and white, even if a print color has been set.

Copies

Specify the number of copies to print.

If you want to output using Universal Connect/X, you can also specify this using the VrCopy function. For details, see "7.2. Common functions" in "Universal Connect/X Administrator Guide".

Multiple-page count

Specify the number of sheets that make up a set of forms within the range of 1 to 30.

  • It cannot be used for output from a dot printer.

Auto page break

This item does not need to be set. No matter how the form is designed, automatic page breaks are always applied, and data exceeding the detail line is output on the next page.

Link-form name

If you use a form containing a repeat item with the Auto page break option selected in the Random or Report-writer mode, specify a form you want to use after a page-break.

  • If a link-form name is not specified, the excess data are output to the same form as the first page. Click the ... button displayed by selecting the Link-form name field. On the Open dialog that appears, select a link form (XML form file) to specify a file.

  • When no XML form files exist under the search path specified in Link-form name, search the form file with the path for the original XML form file and the path specified in the Search path in the SVF output engine products.

Caution

The XML form file specified as a link-form will not be output correctly if it does not contain the same field names, subform names, and record names as those in the original XML form file.

Paper code

You do not need to specify (as this is a setting item used when integrating with Report Director Enterprise).

Form name

Type a form name. Input is optional.

Form title(kana)

Type a form name in kana characters. Input is optional.

2-Sided mode

Select 1-sided or 2-sided printing. In the case of 2-sided printing, select its staple side as well.

If you want to output using Universal Connect/X, you can also specify this using the VrSetDuplex function. For details, see "7.3. Functions for printing" in "Universal Connect/X Administrator Guide".

2-Sided margin(mm)

Select margin of 2-sided printing.

If you want to output using Universal Connect/X, you can also specify this using the VrSetDuplex function. For details, see "7.3. Functions for printing" in "Universal Connect/X Administrator Guide".

Feed tray

Specify the paper tray you want to print to.

Restriction

The printer displays an error if the paper size of the specified tray is different from the size of paper to be output. For details on tray management, see the manual of your printer.

Shrink mode

Prints out by scaling to the size specified here.

ANK/Kanji character ratio

Specify the ratio of character spacing (character width + character pitch) for half-width and full-width characters. It is not reflected on the SVF Cloud X-Designer window and is applied only when printing.

Restriction

This feature is not available for simplified Chinese forms.

Reference

This is only supported in Basic mode.

Paper color

Select the display color of the paper in the form window.

  • This is useful when using colored paper when printing. By setting the paper color, you can design with an image that is close to the actual output result. However, the Paper color setting is intended to aid in designing items, and does not affect the actual output result.

  • Clicking More Colors displays the Choose a Color dialog where you can create a paper color of your choice.

PDF layer

Specify whether to output the PDF layer to a PDF file. (PDF layer is a layer feature added from Adobe Reader 6.0.)

Paper type

The paper type specified here is used for printing.

The paper type to which this number corresponds is defined in SVF configuration. The settings differ according to the printer.

For details, see the page about paper types in the manual below.
