For outputting to Excel file
The following restrictions apply when outputting forms to an Excel file.
Classification | Restrictions |
---|---|
Graphic mode | Items in Graphic mode cannot be created in a form definition. |
Design to fit the grid | Design the form definition according to the grid. Items not aligned to the grid sometimes cannot be output at the intended cell position, because the output cell position is determined by font sizes and the position of text items on the grid. Specifying "Grid position only" for Item position in Grid settings can prevent the print data from being output to an unintended cell position. ![]() |
Merge cells | If characters are output across two or more cells, the cells are merged. The cells for the number of print digits from the beginning of the output character are merged (for the field, the number of field digits). If fields or static text partially overlap, merged cells are merged with other merged cells. In that case, the data of the cells output later will be ignored. Make sure that you place fields or static text not to be overlapped when you create a form definition. |
Character pitch | You cannot specify the character pitch in text strings. It is fixed to "0". If it is specified, the end position of text strings is reflected in Microsoft Excel. Therefore, the merging range changes if cells are merged. |
Aspect ratio | You cannot specify the aspect ratio of text strings. If it is specified, the end position of text strings is reflected in Microsoft Excel. Therefore, the merging range changes if cells are merged. |
Outline, shadow, rotation | You cannot specify the outline, shadow, or rotation of text strings. They are ignored. |
Text direction | You can specify the direction of text strings only as "horizontal". The vertical direction is not supported. |
Fonts | You can specify fonts that are supported in SVF Cloud Designer in text strings. The font files must exist in the environment to display Microsoft Excel. |
Text strings with vertical writing fonts cannot be output. | |
If the text strings to output contain both half and full-width characters, the font specified for Full-width font is used for the output. If only half-width characters are included in the output text string, the font specified for Half-width font is used to output. | |
Font size | It is recommended that you use an integer font size in text strings in design because the font size in Microsoft Excel should be specified using an integer. |
Bold attribute | If you apply the bold attribute to text strings, the text strings will not be output as designed because SVF Cloud Designer and Microsoft Excel apply different methods for drawing bold fonts. SVF Cloud Designer outputs characters at the same position regardless of the bold attribute, while Microsoft Excel changes the display size of characters depending on whether the bold attribute is applied. Therefore, you need to take measures such as adjusting the number of field digits longer. For example, if you output text strings using the same font and apply the bold attribute to the second row only, they will be output as follows. Figure 1. Output example for SVF Cloud Designer ![]() Figure 2. Output example for Microsoft Excel ![]() |
Field data type | The data type of the cell will be either "numeric" or "text" depending on the data type for the field. However, static text is always output as "text" data. |
FORMAT function, FORMAT2 function | If the FORMAT function is used in the edit-formula of a numeric-type field, data is converted into the numeric display format in Microsoft Excel and then output. If you specify the FORMAT2 function, it is handled as the FORMAT function. You can set only one FORMAT function in the edit-formula. You cannot specify combinations of functions, including if(). |
Line items | Line items are output as the borders of cells. You can use only horizontal and vertical lines. You cannot use diagonal lines. |
Rectangle items | Rectangle items are output as the borders of cells. You can specify only "right angle" for the corner type. (Cut and Round corners are also output as Right angle.) |
Line widths, line types, hatching patterns | Line widths, line types, and hatching will be converted and output for Microsoft Excel because their specification methods are different for SVF Cloud Designer and Microsoft Excel. For details on conversion, see "Conversion for Microsoft Excel". |
Color | The 16 colors available in the basic mode of SVF Cloud Designer can be used. |
Paper size | The paper size specified in the form definition is used as the paper size for Excel files. The following are available for Paper size. If you specify "Stock form" or "User-defined", the paper size of the Excel file will be set to "A4".
|
Overlapping items | Overlapping items might not be output properly. |
Print size of image item | Print Size for an image item is valid only when outputting the item according to the "variable" image area. However, it is output according to the grid as well as when output text, the size may differ from as designed. |
Barcodes | Barcodes are not supported. |
Images | You can output BMP, JPEG, GIF, and PNG images. However, if the format or specification is not common, the images in those formats might not be output correctly. |
Output of numbers | If you want to print a number that exceeds 12 digits, you must specify the output format for numbers by using the FORMAT function in an edit-formula in advance, because the number will be displayed in exponential notation in Microsoft Excel (e.g., "3.70267E+11"). |
Row height | Rows might not be output as designed height because their specification methods are different for SVF Cloud Designer and Microsoft Excel. |
Column width | Columns might not be output as designed width because their specification methods are different for SVF Cloud Designer and Microsoft Excel. |
Number of rows | The maximum number of rows and columns that can be output is 65,536. |
Number of columns | The maximum number of columns that can be output is 256. |
Number of seats | Up to 1,370 sheets can be output. |
Duplex printing is not available. | |
Scaling printing is not available. | |
Group suppress | Due to Group Suppress setting, you cannot vertically merge cells with hidden data. |
